Social PR Secrets author, social evangelist, journalist, and recipient of many accolades such as the Top 40+ Digital Strategists in 2014, Lisa Buyer adds yet another title to her repertoire: Adjunct professor at her alma mater, the University of Florida.
Buyer has been teaching this course since the Fall 2014 semester. Available to UF students, this upper level class PUR4932 teaches future Social PR pros everything from the social networks basics to how to become a full-fledged community manager and more. The course doesn’t only teach students how to “do” social media but offers big picture insights as to how important connecting the social media and PR dots can be for a brand to truly be successful.
Buyer brings her own real-world experiences to the classroom as well as shares relevant brand wins (and fails) to help guide the next generation of social media managers. In addition to her personal background, Buyer interviews and hosts guest speakers who are subject matter experts including David Meerman Scott, Guy Kawasaki, Peter Shankman, Jennifer Lopez, Krista Neher and more. Not only do the UF Social Media Management students get access to these industry-famous superstars, the guest speakers also interact with them on social media using the hashtag #PUR4932 and answer their top questions. Buyer also uses the Twitter account @UFPUR4932 to interact directly with her students, in real-time of course, and share trending news and articles so the course is always up-to-date.

This class was a breath of fresh air for me. I feel like I have some direction in a career path as well.
I wanted to take a moment to thank you for allowing me to take your class even though the add/drop week had passed.You are extremely understanding. For example, the persona profile. You reopened the assignment to allow students, including me, to redo our projects, instead of giving me what I think was probably an F, after realizing what I did wrong with my first submission.
You are an amazing teacher and I raved to all my PR classmates that they should take your class next semester! Your assignments were perfect and it will really help when it’s time for us students to go out into the real world.
I want to especially thank you for opening my eyes to Hootsuites’ Certification. Those courses were so easy and while the exam was a little tough, it was absolutely worth it in the end, because I now get to say to my classmates and to the entire world that I am now a Hootsuite Certified Professional!

I just wanted to say thank you for your class this semester. When I first took this class I thought I wasn’t going to learn much if anything at all since I’m already decently active on social media, but I’m happy I was proved wrong. I have really enjoyed learning the ins and outs of how social media works and how to better improve the way I use it. Updating my different sites with the best information I can, learning how to use analytics to track what I’m doing right and connecting my platforms to one medium, are just some ways that I have put your class to use in my everyday life and now my friends look to me for advice on their sites.
